Carpet Installation in Savannah, GA | Stretch-In and Glue-Down Carpet Experts

Carpet still wins in bedrooms and on staircases, and nothing else matches it for warmth or sound absorption. We install carpet throughout Savannah using stretch-in methods over quality pad in homes. Commercial spaces get full-spread glue-down instead, for reasons of traffic.

Stretch-in installation is the residential standard and it is genuinely a craft. Tack strip is fastened around the room perimeter, pad is laid and stapled, then the carpet is power-stretched onto the pins. Power stretching is what prevents the ripples that appear within two years.

A knee kicker alone does not stretch carpet properly, whatever anybody tells you. We use a power stretcher on every residential installation without exception. Carpet installed without one will loosen and buckle, and re-stretching later costs money that proper installation would have saved.

Pad specification matters more than most people expect, and it is where budgets usually get cut first. Padding carries the traffic load and protects the carpet backing from abrasion. An 8 pound density pad at 7/16 inch is our residential default across most rooms.

Fiber selection determines how the carpet wears and how it handles staining. Nylon is the most resilient and recovers best from crushing underfoot. Polyester feels softer underfoot and resists staining inherently, while solution-dyed fibers hold their color against both sunlight and bleach.

We install throughout Savannah and Chatham County, from bedrooms and staircases to whole rental turnovers and office suites. Every project gets the same crew from initial measure through final trim. We are licensed & insured throughout Georgia.

Our Carpet Installation Services

Carpet installation appears straightforward and genuinely rewards precision at every stage. Seam placement, stretching, and stair work are where the difference between a competent and an inadequate installation actually appears. Here is how we approach each job, none of which is visible from a showroom sample.

Residential Stretch-In Installation

We fasten tack strip around the perimeter, leaving a gap roughly equal to the carpet thickness. Pad is then laid, stapled, and butted together rather than overlapped at the joints. Overlapped pad telegraphs through the carpet as a visible ridge within a year. It is among the most common installation faults we get called to correct.

The carpet is then power-stretched onto the pins across both directions of the room. A typical bedroom takes two to three hours, while a 1,000 square foot floor generally takes a single working day from start to finish. We give you that day count before booking.

Seam Placement and Finishing

Seams are planned before the carpet is cut, not discovered during installation. We run them parallel to the main light source wherever possible, because a seam lit from the side casts a shadow and announces itself. Planning that placement before anything is cut costs nothing at all.

Seams get hot-melt seaming tape and a seaming iron, then are rolled to bond fully. We keep them out of doorways and high-traffic paths entirely, since that is exactly where a seam eventually opens. A seam opening in a hallway is a callback waiting to happen.

Stairs and Landings

Staircases are the most demanding carpet work there is, and they are where poor installation shows fastest. We install waterfall style for a softer look, or cap-and-band upholstered style where the tread edge should be defined and crisp. Both are correct, and the choice is genuinely yours to make.

Each tread is individually stretched and fastened rather than run as a continuous piece. That takes longer and it is why a staircase can cost as much as a bedroom despite the far smaller area. Nobody expects that figure, so we explain it at the measure.

Commercial and Rental Installation

Commercial carpet is normally glue-down, either broadloom or carpet tile, because rolling traffic ripples a stretched floor quickly. Glue-down needs a clean, dry, flat substrate, so we test slab moisture before any adhesive goes down. Adhesive failure across a commercial floor is expensive to put right afterward.

Carpet tile suits offices particularly well, since damaged tiles lift and replace individually without touching the surrounding floor. For rentals we specify solution-dyed fiber, which survives aggressive cleaning between tenancies far better. In a turnover that resilience matters more than the purchase price.

Carpet Fibers and Padding We Offer

The fiber determines durability and stain behavior, while the pad determines how long the carpet survives underfoot. Getting either wrong costs you years of service life. Here is what we specify and why, and both decisions get made at the measure with you in the room.

Nylon and Polyester Fibers

Nylon is the most resilient carpet fiber available and recovers best from crushing under furniture and foot traffic. It costs more than polyester and lasts considerably longer, which makes it our default for stairs and hallways. Those are precisely the areas where crushing underfoot shows first.

Polyester feels softer underfoot and resists staining inherently rather than through a topical treatment. It crushes more readily than nylon, so we specify it for bedrooms and low-traffic rooms rather than main circulation paths. Topical stain treatments wear away over time, while inherent resistance does not.

Solution-Dyed and Coastal Considerations

Solution-dyed fiber has color built into the material itself rather than applied to the surface afterward. It resists fading from sunlight and survives bleach-based cleaning, which matters in rooms with large windows. Bleach-based cleaning would strip the color from a conventionally dyed carpet fiber entirely.

Coastal properties see strong light and high humidity together. We keep carpet out of ground-floor rooms with any flooding history, and recommend vinyl plank in those spaces instead of replacing carpet repeatedly. Replacing a flooded carpet twice costs more than specifying correctly once.

Padding Density and Thickness

Pad is rated by density in pounds and by thickness in inches, and density matters considerably more. A dense thin pad outperforms a soft thick one every time. Our residential default is 8 pound density at 7/16 inch, which suits most bedrooms and living areas comfortably. We state that specification in writing rather than leaving it vague.

Thicker is not automatically better, because pad above 1/2 inch flexes too much underfoot, which stresses the carpet backing and voids many warranties. Stairs get firmer pad at reduced thickness, because a soft stair tread feels genuinely unsafe. Firm pad underfoot is a safety consideration rather than a preference.

Why Savannah Flooring Company Is the Best Carpet Installation Expert

Local Expertise in Savannah, GA

We have installed carpet across Savannah for over 50 years, including a great many bedroom and staircase projects in the older properties downtown. Those staircases are rarely uniform, and every tread frequently needs measuring individually rather than as a set.

Professional Installers

Power stretching is the difference between carpet that lies flat for a decade and carpet that ripples inside two years. We use a power stretcher on every single residential installation we undertake. Seam placement and stair work are judgement built over years, and we never subcontract either.

Commitment to Customer Satisfaction

You receive one written figure covering carpet, pad, tack strip, labor, and removal of the existing floor. Pad specification is stated in writing rather than left vague. We walk the finished installation with you and correct anything before leaving. Nothing gets scheduled for a return visit that never quite arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions About Carpet Installation

Carpet generally runs 3.50 to 8 dollars per square foot installed, covering carpet, pad, tack strip, labor, and removal of your existing floor. Fiber drives most of that range, with polyester at the lower end and quality nylon at the top. Stairs price separately because each tread is stretched individually. Commercial glue-down and carpet tile price differently again. The in-home measure is free.

Stretch-in is the residential standard. Tack strip is fastened around the room perimeter, pad is laid and stapled, then the carpet is power-stretched onto the strip pins and trimmed. The tension is what holds the carpet flat rather than adhesive. A power stretcher is essential, because a knee kicker alone cannot achieve enough tension and the carpet will ripple within a couple of years.

Carpet is quick compared with hard flooring. A single bedroom typically takes two to three hours, and 1,000 square feet usually takes one working day. Whole-house installations above 2,000 square feet generally run two days. Staircases take disproportionately long, often half a day on their own, because every tread is stretched and fastened individually. There is no cure or acclimation time to wait through.

Yes, essentially always. Pad compresses permanently over its life and carries the traffic load that protects the carpet backing. Reusing old pad under new carpet voids most manufacturer warranties and shortens the life of the carpet noticeably. Pad is a small fraction of the total cost. Our residential default is 8 pound density at 7/16 inch, with firmer and thinner pad on staircases.

Solution-dyed nylon in either glue-down broadloom or carpet tile. Solution-dyed fiber carries color through the material, so it survives aggressive cleaning and strong light without fading. Glue-down prevents the rippling that rolling chair traffic causes on stretched carpet. Carpet tile is worth considering in offices, because damaged tiles replace individually without disturbing the surrounding floor. We walk the space and advise honestly.
